Come Out From Them

If you are to live a life honoring to God, you need to separate yourself from the sins, lifestyles, and evil customs of this world.

Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the LORD.

Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you.

Tyndale House Publishers. (2015). Holy Bible: New Living Translation (2 Corinthians 6:17).

Deny Yourself and Follow Jesus.

And He said to all, If any person wills to come after Me,

let him deny himself [ disown himself, forget, lose sight of himself and his own interests, refuse and give up himself]

and take up his cross daily and follow Me [ cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying also].

Lockman Foundation, 1987 Amplified Bible (Luke 9:23 AMP)

Sometimes in our lives we are on the throne and want Jesus to be our co-pilot instead of the pilot. Pridefully, we say, “It’s alright LORD, I got this.” Recklessly, we then drive our lives, marriage, families, relationships, and spiritual walk, into a ditch. We need to let Him lead and we follow!

There is only one Great I AM! And it’s not us!

God replied to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you.”

Tyndale House Publishers. (2015). Holy Bible: New Living Translation (Exodus 3:14).

 The Seven I AM Statements

  1. The Bread Of Life

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. (John 6:35)

  1. The Light Of The World

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

  1. The Gate

I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. (John 10:9)

  1. The Good Shepherd

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” (John 10:11)

  1. The Resurrection And The Life

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” (John 11:25-26)

  1. The Way, The Truth, And The Life

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)

  1. The Vine

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)

Jesus said deny yourselves, take up your cross daily, and follow Me.

Where are we following him to?

A life of:

Sacrifice

And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you.

Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world,

but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.

Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Tyndale House Publishers. (2015). Holy Bible: New Living Translation (Romans 12:1–2).

A Life of Crucifying Your Flesh Daily

So kill (deaden, deprive of power) the evil desire lurking in your members [those animal impulses and all that is earthly in you that is employed in sin]: sexual vice, impurity, sensual appetites, unholy desires, and all greed and covetousness, for that is idolatry (the deifying of self and other created things instead of God).

Lockman Foundation, 1987 Amplified Bible (Colossians 3:5 AMP)

I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

The New King James Version (1 Co 15:31). (1982). Thomas Nelson.

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.

Tyndale House Publishers. (2015). Holy Bible: New Living Translation (Galatians 5:24).

A Life of Humility

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.

Tyndale House Publishers. (2015). Holy Bible: New Living Translation (Philippians 2:3).

A Life of Obedience

Not my will, but yours be done.

He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”

Tyndale House Publishers. (2015). Holy Bible: New Living Translation (Matthew 26:39).

A Life of Surrendering

Now if you want to say some “I wills” to God, how about:

Because of your unfailing love, I can enter your house; I will worship at your Temple with deepest awe.

I will praise you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done.

I can rejoice that you have rescued me.

I will live in the house of the LORD forever.

Tyndale House Publishers. (2015). Holy Bible: New Living Translation (Psalms 5:7; 9:1; 14; 23:6).

And Eternal Life

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”

Tyndale House Publishers. (2015). Holy Bible: New Living Translation (John 3:16).

Here is what should be noticeable in the life of a Christian who is surrendering their life to Christ:

Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.

Don’t become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.

Tyndale House Publishers. (2015). Holy Bible: New Living Translation (Galatians 5:22–26).

Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate?

Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.

Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to.

Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form,

he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

Tyndale House Publishers. (2015). Holy Bible: New Living Translation (Philippians 2:1–8).

Let nothing be in you that the enemy can use against you.

I will not talk with you much more, for the prince (evil genius, ruler) of the world is coming. And he has no claim on Me. [He has nothing in common with Me; there is nothing in Me that belongs to him, and he has no power over Me.]

But [Satan is coming and] I do as the Father has commanded Me, so that the world may know (be convinced) that I love the Father and that I do only what the Father has instructed Me to do. [I act in full agreement with His orders.] Rise, let us go away from here.

Lockman Foundation, 1987 Amplified Bible John 14:30-31 (AMP)

Application:

Now is the time to do a self evaluation. Are any of the works of the flesh active in your life? If so, today is the day to surrender them to Christ.

  • Who is on the throne in your life?
  • How many times a day do you say I? I want out of this marriage. I wish I was never born. I wish I had…; I don’t like…; I don’t want to; I don’t have to; I want…; I deserve…; I think; I’m right; or, I don’t care about you.
  • What lie of I do I need to reject to dethrone myself and let the Great I Am rule and reign in my life?
  • What have you given, taken, or accepted from others? What did you learn?

Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.

For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.

And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.

Tyndale House Publishers. (2015). Holy Bible: New Living Translation (1 John 2:15–17).

Understand, I receive unconditional love from Christ that I don’t deserve. And so have you.

It’s time to end the lie of I and start surrendering and following the Great I AM.

Pride is the lie of I. Humility is the lifestyle of Christianity.
