People today use the term “goal-setting” as a buzzword, but they don’t always know what that means.

With many people lacking the self-awareness to know what they want and setting the bar too low, it’s important to set goals that will help you accomplish what you want in life.

In this blog post, I will share my top tips for setting goals in 2023 and living a balanced life.

Blog Outline:

1. Stay motivated
2. Find your passion
3. Stop giving your time away
4. Think about your goals
5. Establish a lifestyle
6. Set up your environment
7. Get enough sleep
8. Change your thinking
9. Focus on the present
10. Be happy

Setting goals is a process, but it doesn’t have to be a scary one. With a little planning, you can make it a lot easier on yourself and your family.

  • The first step is to set goals that are realistic and have a deadline. This will keep you focused on the end goal and keep you motivated to reach it.
  • After you have set your deadlines and written your realistic goals, you’ll need to break your goals down into manageable steps. This will help you stay on track and on time.
  • Finally, be sure to have at least one person in your life who can keep tabs on your progress and help you achieve your goals.

It’s important to keep track of what you’ve achieved and to celebrate the minor victories along the way.

The 10 Tips:

Stay Motivated:

Staying motivated is something that is very important for people. Some people have a hard time getting motivated and keep going.

If you’re having trouble with motivation, find ways to get inspired.

  • One way to stay motivated is to stay active and healthy. This will help you stay driven and keep you on track.
  • Another way to stay motivated is to find a goal and keep moving forward towards it.
  • You should also try to find a way to have fun while you are working.
  • Lastly, it’s a good idea to look out for and keep motivated by seeing others’ experiences and skills. Even if you are not good at the first step of learning a new skill, it is still possible to learn and continually practice your newly gained experience.

Find Your Passion:

If you want to find your passion, you need to do what you do best.

If you love to draw, try sketching.

Are you a talented writer? Try writing stories and poems.

If you are good at math, do some problem solving.

These are great ways to express your creativity and show off your talents and skills.

Find something that you love to do and try to do it for a while.

Practice makes perfect – The best way to get better at something is to practice.

To practice, all you really need to do is get into your comfort zone and keep going at it until you become better.

Your passion will show when you are doing what you love, and if you do it often, you will love it and become skilled in your profession.

Stop Giving Your Time Away:

You are not a robot. You are not a machine. You are a person.

The best way to keep your motivation high is to take care of yourself and your needs.

It is important to make time for yourself and do things that make you happy.

Sometimes we are so busy trying to take care of everyone else that we forget to take care of ourselves. It is easy to get overwhelmed when you have a lot on your plate, but it is important that you remember to make yourself a priority as well.

It is important that you get enough sleep, eat healthy, exercise, and take time for yourself. If you take care of yourself, you will be more able to take care of others.

Doing these things will help you be more productive, maintain your energy and keep your motivation up, and feel better about your life.

Think About Your Goals:

To make sure you get the best results from your goals, it is important that you think about living a balanced life when planning them.

You should write your goals and discuss them with someone who you trust. Then you can try to make your goals more achievable.

The best way to obtain this is to break your goals down into small, achievable steps.

You should also make sure that you have an action plan in place for each step.

For example, you can create a daily to-do list in which you can add your goals for the day.

You should keep your goals visible to you at all times. You can place them on your phone so you can recall them throughout your day.

Or, you can put a picture of you on the beach in your apartment to remind you of your goals for the summer.

If weight lose is a goal, you could set a goal to lose a pound a week.

For example, if your goal is to lose weight, then you should break this goal down into smaller steps, such as:

  • Losing one pound per week.
  • Cutting out one meal per day.
  • Make healthier substitutions.
  • Or, adding more exercise throughout your day. E.g., take the stairs instead of the elevator.

Once you have each step planned out, you can then create an action plan for each step. This will help you stay on track and complete your goal.

Establish a lifestyle:

We often use the word lifestyle as an adjective describing being healthy in our daily lives. But lifestyle is more than a label to describe our health. In fact, it comes from a Latin word meaning to lead a life.

To lead a healthy lifestyle, we need to make lifestyle choices that will improve our wellbeing.

Lifestyle choices can have a tremendous impact on our health. However, many people would rather make one choice that will improve their health and ignore other choices that will improve their health as well.

Our lives are busy, and we are often faced with tough decisions that we need to make. We should make the choices that will improve our health and not the ones that will make our lives easier. We can do this by taking positive actions to improve our physical and mental health, and using these actions as a guide to help us make better choices.

For the body:

One of the most important tips is to establish a balanced lifestyle. You need to take care of your body by eating healthy, exercising, and sleeping well.

Healthy eating habits are important because your body needs a variety of foods to stay fit and healthy.

You should choose foods that are low in saturated fat and high in fiber, protein, and carbohydrates. If you want to be healthy, you need to make healthy choices.

You should attempt to eat healthy and exercise.

You can start by eating a healthy breakfast to start your day off right. What you eat for breakfast is very important because it will set the tone for your entire day.

“Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.”

Tyndale House Publishers. (2015). Holy Bible: New Living Translation (1 Timothy 4:8). Tyndale House Publishers.

For the mind:

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind

The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Romans 12:2). (2016). Crossway Bibles.

It’s easy to forget how important peace of mind is.

Living in a state of fear or stress can make even the simplest of tasks a challenge.

It is important to learn how to manage your stress and live a happy and productive life.

When you’re juggling a lot of responsibilities, deadlines and stress, it’s important to find a way to relax.

There are many ways to do this, such as meditating, exercising, and even spending time with friends.

One of the best ways to relax is to get a massage. There are a lot of benefits to getting a massage, including the benefits of stress relief, improved sleep, and reduced muscle tension.

Learning how to manage your stress will help you live a healthier life.

For the spirit:

Spiritual peace is an elusive concept, but it is attainable.

There are a few things that you can do to have spiritual peace.

One way to increase spiritual peace is to pray.

Prayer has been proven to be a powerful tool and is a great way to connect with God. It has been shown to help people cope with the stress of life, heal themselves, and connect with others.

Prayer can also help to connect people with God and with themselves.

The scriptures have many events of people praying and receiving answers to their prayers. There are other occurrences of people who prayed for others and their prayers were answered.

There are many other ways to increase spiritual peace.

For example, being grateful for what you have, being kind to others, and engaging in acts of kindness. These are all great ways to increase spiritual peace.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Tyndale House Publishers. (2015). Holy Bible: New Living Translation (Philippians 4:6–7). Tyndale House Publishers.

Set up your environment:

People who succeed in their careers and in their lives have a strong set of skills and a strong set of beliefs.

Success is a great thing, but success doesn’t always come easy.

For most, life is not all about success.

There are moments of struggles, heartbreak, and even failure. Sometimes you have to rely on other people to help you get through the tough times.

Success, failure, struggle, heartbreak, and hardship are all a part of life. Therefore, it is important to know when to be happy and when to be sad.

The best way to achieve success is to surround yourself with positive people.

You should be careful when choosing who you hang out with. There are people who are not good for you and will only bring you down, and you should make sure you don’t spend time with these individuals. It is important to keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

You should make sure that the people you are spending time with are going to make you happy. They should be uplifting and encouraging. These people will make you feel good about yourself and help you achieve your goals.

You also need to have a strong supportive environment that will enable you to live a happy, successful, and prosperous life.

What is a strong supportive environment?

A strong supportive environment is one in which an individual feels comfortable and accepted.

To feel accepted, an individual must be able to trust and rely on the people in the environment. Trust is a big component of a strong supportive environment.

Successful, happy, and prosperous individuals are people who have found the balance between their personal and professional life.

Get enough sleep:

Some people need a lot of sleep to function properly. They may need eight hours of sleep per night or even more.

If you find yourself getting sleepy throughout the day and nodding off during meetings, it may be time to consider altering your sleeping schedule.

If you are having trouble falling asleep, try to limit your caffeine intake in the day. You may find that it helps you fall asleep faster and stay asleep all night.

Change your thinking:

It’s an old saying, “Change your thoughts, change your life”. This might sound like a cheesy piece of advice, but it’s actually true.

How many times have you found yourself thinking about a negative scenario? This negative thought can lead to a chain of negative feelings and actions. But, by changing the way you think, you can change your life. To change your life, you need to change your thinking.

I don’t know about you, but I have a very busy life and it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day grind of life. I’m not going to recommend that you cut corners, but I will suggest that you take five minutes out of your day to do something you enjoy.

When you take a break, you can do things like listen to music, read a good book, or just sit quietly and look at the sunset.

Focus on the present:

There is a lot to be said about focusing on the present. It is important to live in the moment and enjoy what you have.

Instead of worrying about what you don’t have, work on becoming the best version of yourself.

Focusing on the present can help you achieve your goals and make you happy.

It is important to think about the things you already have and how they make you feel.

Also, think about what you want to achieve and start by putting your focus on the present.

Be happy:

A key to being happy is to make yourself as a priority. It may be hard in the beginning, but it will be worth it long term.

Once you are happy with yourself, you can worry less about what others think of you.

Change what you can, accept what you can’t, and be happy with what you have.

Have You Felt Like Giving Up?

7 Tips to Help You Keep Going

Processing…
Success! You're on the list.

Follow me on;

Are you feeling overwhelmed, stressed, frustrated, fatigued, burned out from the pressures of life, or dealing with anxiety?

Are there times you just want to throw in the towel and call it quits?

Have you thought about getting in your car and driving as far away as you can to begin a new life where no one knows you?

You are not alone.

We all have faced these moments in our lives. Either from family, work, responsibilities, or just life.

What can you do to overcome these feelings, stay plugged in, and keep going?

1.) Take a Time-Out.

Time-outs are not just for misbehaving children. Adults need time outs too.

One way you can overcome emotional overload is by stepping away from the situation.

Time Out Techniques:

  • Take a fifteen minute break.
  • Take a vacation.
  • Go for a walk.
  • Take a bike ride.
  • Go for a swim.
  • Take a road trip.
  • Go camping.
  • Take a hike.
  • Go fishing.
  • Read a book.
  • Excerise.
  • Surround yourself in another environment.

These methods can help lower blood-pressure, give you time to problem solve, and gain motivation to stay focused.

2.) Set Boundaries.

Setting boundaries is an essential part of your mental health, safety, and peace of mind.

Often, we can become so overwhelmed by helping others and allowing our time to be consumed by offering help and assistant to others, we forget about ourselves.

We set boundaries in place for a reason. We place them as a way of saying to others, “I need my space.” “You are overstepping the line.” Or, “I feel you are taking advantage of me.”

Don’t feel bad about setting boundaries. It is letting others know you are in control of your life, peace of mind, safety, and mental health.

3.) Practice Saying No.

I once read an article about the difficulties of being a yes person ~I can’t remember the article today~ and it offered some tips for changing your behaviour.

One tip the article suggested, if you are an individual that is prone to saying yes to people who ask for help, money, your time, etc., practice in your alone time of saying no.

You might ask, “What is the purpose of that?”

Studies show, on average, it takes 21-30 days to change a negative thought behaviour.

Understanding, it didn’t take you one night to ingrain the negative thought into your mind and then act out its behaviour. This process happened over time and it will take time to reprogram your mind and behaviour.

One of these steps is repetition. If you think about it, when you want to remember something, don’t you repeat it several times in your mind to help you remember? This is the same practice in changing your automatic response of saying yes to saying no.

Practice saying no as you are going about your daily activities and see if within 3-4 weeks if your initial response has changed from saying yes to saying no.

4.) Deligate Responsiablites.

Too many responsibilities can place a significant amount of stress on you.

Caring for your children, family, running errands, shopping, cleaning, taking your children to practices, going to games, are just a few examples of responsibilities that can become overwhelming.

A great way to reduce the stress of these responsibilities is to delegate them to other family members or lean on friends to help lighten the load.

Asking for help is not a sign of weakness. It can be empowering because you are showing that your family is important and you only want the best for them, and their success is your highest priority.

Delagation Tips:

  • Network with other parents to establish a carpool system for transporting children to and from practices and games.
  • Develop a “Help Appreciated” list instead of a “Chore List.” By creating an appreciation list lessens the implication that the family member or individual may not be contributing to the unity of the family. It can also help the individual discover you are feeling overwhelmed, and because they love you, they will feel the need to help.
  • Make a list of errands you need to run and try to schedule them for one day a week instead of several. E.g., if you are getting your hair or nails done, stop and check the mail at the post office, stop at the store and pick up needed groceries to get you through the week.

5.) Make Time for Yourself.

An important key to healthy mental health is “Self-Care.”

Allotting time for yourself throughout each day is essential for mental, physical, and spiritual balance. I like to call this “Defragmenting.”

There are utilities on most Microsoft Window computers that are called Disc Cleanup and Disc Defragmenter.

Simply put, Disc Cleanup removes left over data from files and programs that were removed, resulting in freed up space on your hard drive.

Disc Defragmenter takes files that were scattered throughout your hard drive and rearranges them to help storage space and performance on the computer.

Taking time for yourself to clear out the mental clutter and put thoughts into perspective should be an important activity of your day. This will help you reflect on your day and analyze choices and decision you have made.

Benefits from this activity,

  • You can correct errors from poor choices and decisions.
  • Plan for more productive days.
  • Help keep a positive, balanced, and healthy mindset.
  • Stay plugged in to your family and important things that matter.
  • Lower blood pressure and stress.
  • Strengthen your relationship with God.

Tips for “Self-Care;”

  • Meditation & Prayer-are key disciplines for a healthy spiritual and well-balanced life. The Bible states in Isaiah 26:3; “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” Tyndale House Publishers. (2015). Holy Bible: New Living Translation (Is 26:3). Meditating and memorizing the scriptures helps keep you focused on things that are wholesome and just. The Bible also declares in Proverbs 4:20-23; “My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body. Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” Tyndale House Publishers. (2015). New Living Translation.
  • Sleep-Make sure you are getting enough rest each day. The “National Sleep Foundation” guidelines advise at least 7-9 hours. This is an imperative part of your self-care. If you are having difficulties with your sleep pattern, you may need to talk to your doctor.
  • Eat Healthy-Eating well-balanced meals of fruits, vegetables, and non-processed foods will help keep your body healthy and well nourished.
  • Exercise-Exercising is an activity that most of us struggle with, including myself. However, there are extreme benefits to exercising. It can help to lower blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and heart failure, just to name a few.

6.) Get Inspiried Again.

Times when you feel defeated, lack of drive or ambition, it is important to get inspired again.

Inspiration can come in many forms.

Rekindle things that used to inspire you or discover new things to be inspired.

Tips for Inspiration;

  • Read the Bible.
  • Attend church.
  • Read an inspirational book.
  • Help someone in need.
  • Go for a scenic walk or drive.
  • Take a hike in the woods or mountains.
  • Go to a body of water, e.g., lake, ocean, river.
  • Watch an inspiring movie.
  • Support a cause.

These tips could help spark the dwindling flame that once was a raging fire.

7.) Don’t Quit!

being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

The New International Version (Philippians 1:6). (2011). Zondervan.

Remember, you are still here because you have a purpose.

You have been created to solve a problem, give love to others, pull up others who are down, and finish the call God has designed you to fulfill.

We all encounter overwhelming days. You experience victories in battles and you have defeats. The significant thing is to keep fighting! Keep moving forward! Become inspired again! Get plugged back in and be empowered!

Don’t quit!

But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.

The New International Version (2 Chronicles 15:7). (2011). Zondervan.

How To Make Decisions With No Regrets

9 Steps to Make Decisions that Stick

Processing…
Success! You're on the list.

Follow me on;

Do you find making decisions brings anxiety and fear?

Are you overwhelmed with thoughts of frustration and procrastination?

When faced with a life altering decision, do you often miss opportunities because you don’t have a strategy to execute your decision?

I believe the following 9 steps will help empower you to:

  • Remain calm as you are thought processing
  • Gather needed resources to help in your decision making
  • Consider all your options
  • Make a visual plan
  • Gain wisdom to aid you in making right choices
  • Use your findings to make a decision you won’t regret
  • Make decisions that benefit both you and your family
  • Achieve your goals

Every day you face decisions. From what time you will wake up, what you will eat for breakfast, what you will wear for the day, what time you are leaving your house, to what path you will take to reach your destination, and so on. I think you get the idea.

Decision making is a process you encounter daily.

You think through situations sometimes without even realizing you have made a decision. It almost seems robotic.

Have you ever left work and have been rehashing your day and, before you realize it, you are pulling into your driveway? This is likely because your mind has programmed, or mapped out, the route you have traveled so frequently it’s like set to autopilot. Your thought process was so focused on the events from your day, and you rehashing them, that your memory from your frequently traveled route becomes automatic.

Perplexing how are minds work and stores information, isn’t it?

Decision making can be overwhelming if you don’t have the right steps and plan to follow.

Steps to Follow to Make Decisions with No Regrets

D

Don’t Panic! Pray and seek God’s guidance.

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.”~Philippians 4:6 NLT

When you face a decision, try not to panic. Take a moment to step away from the situation to collect your thoughts and seek clarity.

Anxiety hits when faced to quickly make a decision. We become overwhelmed and our emotions alter our thought process. Step back and pray.

In addition, prayer helps relax your mind, body, and soul as you are seeking for strength, guidance, and clarity. How? Because you are communicating with your Heavenly Father, receiving comfort during your stress.

E

Explore and research all resources.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”~Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT

Before making any big decision, explore all viable options.

Don’t relay only on passed, gathered knowledge. What may have worked before may not work again. Situations change, previous opportunities have passed, you have learned new skills. Seek for new knowledge about the decision at hand. Research, research, research!

C

Consider all consequences. Weigh out the good and bad.

“Get wisdom; develop good judgment.”~Proverbs 4:5a NLT

Think about how your decision will affect your family, finances, emotions, and your mental stability.

Exam all potential outcomes. Consider the good AND bad that may develop from your decision.

  • Will you need extra finances to make this decision?
  • Do you have to move?
  • Will your children have to apply to a new school?
  • What problems may arise from this decision?
  • How long do you have to make this decision?
  • Why are you contemplating this decision?
  • Where do you see you and your family in five years because of this decision?

We learn lessons through both good and bad decisions.

I

Incorporate all your information to develop your plan.

“Wise people think before they act; fools don’t…”~Proverbs 13:16a NLT

After you have prayed, explored, and considered, now organize and comprise all your new gained knowledge.

You can use a filing system to categorize each topic.

S

Seek wisdom and help from reliable sources.

“Plans go wrong for lack of advice; many advisers bring success.”~Proverbs 15:22 NLT

Seek counsel from reliable and trusted sources.

Always go up for wisdom, not out. What does this mean? Gain wisdom, guidance, and counsel from more knowledgeable and skilled professionals and sources.

Don’t go on social media and ask for help because you will receive conflicting amounts of advice from people that don’t know you or your situation. They may mean well, but they don’t know all the details. Also, they are your peers and may be on the same level of knowledge about the problem you are trying to solve. Go up for help. Not out.

TIPS:

  • Ask questions.
  • Take notes.
  • Share your findings with them.

These tips can help you eliminate unneeded resources and focus on those most important.

I

Indite (write down) your consequence.

“Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.”~Habakkuk 2:2 ESV

After you have compiled all your resources, now start writing out your plan.

This helps you have a visual and mental picture to map out all your options.

You can use a whiteboard, chalkboard, electrical tablet, or notepad if you like traditional.

The primary goal is to write it out.

O

Only make decisions that honor God and benefit you and your family’s greater good.

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.”~Psalms 32:8 ESV

Pray again before you make your final decision.

Is this decision God honoring? Will it bring Him glory?

Do you have to manipulate, lie, cheat, or comprise your character to make this decision?

Over all, is this decision for the greater good and benefit of you and your family?

N

Now is the time to implement your decision with no regrets.

“We can make our own plans, but the LORD gives the right answer.”~Proverbs 16:1 NLT

You have now made it to the last step. It is time to make your decision.

Having prayed, researched, weighed out the pros and cons, and sought advice from others, have faith to follow through with your final decision.

S

Stick to your designed plan. Stay focused!

“Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you.”~Proverbs 4:25 NLT

Stick to your plan! Don’t become distracted by fear and doubt.

Remember, you have prayed over this plan, researched, and sought wisdom from those with experience.

Have faith and God and the plan He has guided you to follow.

Follow your decision and have no regrets.

“Commit your actions to the LORD, and your plans will succeed.”~Proverbs 16:3
